Burning breast pain may indicate subacute mastitis and not necessarily
candidiasis. That sharp, burning or needling pain may be the result of a
combination of *Strep viridans* and coagulase-negative staph (*Staph
epidermidis*) that form thick biofilms in the lumen of the lactiferous
ducts, impeding milk flow and causing needle-like pain from the narrowed
inflamed lumen. Because there is so much antibiotic resistance built up in
these nasty bugs, some researchers are suggesting that probiotics be used
to bring the breast microbiome back into balance.  L. fermentum CECT5716
can be an effective agent to correct this mammary dysbiosis.
