Dear Dr. Mobbs:

I loved your summary on LACTNET. As the decades pass, humans become more
removed from their biology and from their environment....I wonder if we
will survive, as humans are poisoning their nests (air, soil and water).

I've just started re-reading Ashley Montague's great work *Touching: the
Human Significance of Skin * . Interesting that in today's pandemic, touch
has become verboten. What will the impact be on babies taken away from
their COVID+ mothers after a cesarean section, denied the milk of their
mothers, and given to their grandparents to raise until her test comes back
negative?

Gale Mobb's paper was influential on me at the start of my career. I am
grateful, as my appreciation of the mouth as an organ of imprinting was
awakened by that paper.

Your comments about studying industrialized babies and basing
recommendations based upon non-physiologic practices apply also to sleep.
Our babies were meant to sleep next to us. Studying artificially-fed
babies sleeping in cages away from the hearts they have known all their
lives, and applying that knowledge to all babies is another mistake.

Thank you for this reminder that we are mammals first and foremost.

warmly,
