Dear Lactnet Friends:

Most pregnant ladies in a breastfeeding class are tired at the end of a
long day. Most of their brains are occupied with thoughts of labor.

I've had success wit these strategies:

1) Ask people to say what they've heard about breastfeeding that they
didn't like. Write what they say on the blackboard, verbatim. There's the
class right there, discussing all of those things.

2) Give them a mantra "You have to take it out to make it" about milk.

3) They are writing their own book; the baby is their teacher. They will
build their own unique relationship.

4) The baby is the only one who knows how to breastfeed, The mother has to
keep the breastaurant open by keeping baby close, as much holding as
possible (skin to skin is nice but that is her choice), when in doubt offer
the breast.

5) Show a film featuring laid-back.

6) Only the mother and baby can breastfeed together; nobody else's hands
belong there.

warmly,
