Hi Sumar,

Our hospital offers lactation support for our employees. We have an employee pump room accessible to all shifts. There are 2 stalls that we furnish with hospital-grade pumps. We provide kits for employees that would like to use the hospital-grade pumps. Some employees bring their own personal use pumps. There is a refrigerator available. There are 2 smaller pump rooms as well, one in our Children's Hospital and one near our main OR's. We have also written a worksite lactation policy. I can share it with you if you contact me off-list. Employees are encouraged to take our breastfeeding classes that are offered to the public. (one of our NICU LC's teaches them and they are free) I personally feel like hospitals have no business promoting breastfeeding at all if they aren't willing to support their employees.

Thank you,

Holly McSpadden, IBCLC

Subject: Breastfeeding employee support hospital

Hello All,

Hospital lactation consultants, I need help please! I would like to inquire here about breastfeeding support for employees at a various hospital locations.
Some questions I have are: Does your hospital have a written employee breastfeeding support policy? Does your hospital offer return-to-work breastfeeding support programs that provide products and education? Does your hospital offer breastfeeding classes for their employees, if so, who conducts the classes?
Ramping up breastfeeding employee support is important for many reasons including staff recruitment and retention. I am looking for information to build a comprehensive program to match benchmark standards of support.

Thank you,

Sumar Morrison
