So the problem with a lot of these protocols for latching, and other
issues, is that it is not so cut and dried. In this instance, I get that
she wants a wide gape with good breast contact. But we have all seen plenty
of instances where the nose is not buried into the breast, or even in
contact, and yet there is a nice, deep and effective latch/suck. Just
depends on what a new mom with no experience is going to focus on and is
that going to be helpful in the big picture. Will she understand that her
baby can nurse well without the nose touching the breast or will she fuss
around with positioning to achieve that perfect picture when, in fact, it
actually interferes with optimum latch?
