Heather - I see two concerns in your post.  

1) could the numbness in the breast interfere with milk release? - I would think that could be possible but wouldn't assume it will happen.  It might be easier for baby to start at the other side first, where milk may flow more easily and result in less frustration.  She may find that breast compressions while nursing at the numb side may help with milk removal, unless the numbness at the left makes that too difficult.  

2) numbness on the left side - a conversation about nursing with the right arm (football at R and cross-cradle at left) or using a sling for added support at the left would be helpful as well.  


Jeanette - As a Leader with LLL, I have always understood that I need to keep records of helping calls for 21 years.  At the hospital where I work, this is also true of our phone records, outpatient notes, and computer records.
