Back in the 50's there used to be an ob in our area. Moms stayed 7 midnights after birth and all of her patients breast fed or else! Of course back then the babies didn't even get ANYTHING for 24 hours! and the rediculous schedules for 4 hour feeds and x # of minutes on the breast. At least we come a bit further than that. I had my first baby in 59 and lasted 2 1/2 weeks becuse she wanted to eat every 2 hours or so, so I obviously didn't have enough milk. Didn't even try to nurse #2 because my RN s-i-l told me it wouldn't be possible with a toddler running around. Baby 3 was admitted to hosp for dehyd from a virus and of course I wasn't "allowed" to BF and that was the end of his nursing. Baby #4 nursed 2 years, guess when I joined LLL? Ah those were the days.
