Dear Lactnet Friends:

I have had private email dialogue with Dr. Nice, who has graciously given
me permission to share his posts with you all.

"Dear Nikki,
Tom Hale has given up the Orphan Drug status fight.
In my opinion, if a Schedule I drug (marijuana, which is much more
dangerous for breastfeeding women) that is illegal can be used illegally in
breastfeeding women, then domperidone pales in comparison.
The FDA is politically motivated anymore; I know; I worked there.
I will always continue to do what is best for breastfeeding women."

My response to his comment was:

*"*Dear Dr. Nice:

May I share this post on LACTNET?

The past few posts about domperidone on LACTNET led me to believe that
there was some current information that I was missing. It is illegal in the
US. Physicians have had their licenses threatened for using it, and
pharmacies no longer compound it that I know about.

We need the truth about this stupid situation. While Domperidone is a
lovely drug, folks need to know the state of current affairs.

Thank you.

His next response to my comment was:

Dear Nikki,
Yes; you may share.
Yes; everything you state about the intimidation is sadly true.
There are brave souls out there who continue to fight the fight to help
breastfeeding women.
We are not alone even though at times we think we are.
I stand by everything in my Handout until someone disproves it.
Someone at the FDA has a vendetta against Domperidone for all possible
uses, let alone lactation.
Big Pharma has much to gain with the status quo.
I used to respect Big Pharma and the FDA, but no more since the FDA is all
now politics and personal power anymore.
As I said, explain to me the FDAs non-stand on marijuana in breastfeeding
women yet its stand against Domperidone. The federal law against marijuana
use still stands. There is no federal law against Domperidone. Something
is not right.
