PTP. Can plugged ducts substantially decrease the amount baby can transfer at the breast? 7 week old baby, lost 10% after birth & mom supplemented with EBM for a few days only. Gained past BW at 2 weeks (no supplements) and gained an average of 1 oz/day until 6 weeks. But now, baby has gained only 1 oz in 6 days. Only thing different mom has noticed are plugged ducts for the last 2 weeks, which come and go. Test wts today revealed only 22 ml transferred from L side (with a large plug in the upper & lower outer quadrants of the breast, that softened with nursing). Mom has been taking sunflower lecithin, 1 cap 3-4 times/day x 1 week. Would block feeding, for no longer than 48 hours, help to fully drain the breast? I don't want to down-regulate mom's supply, but want to help get rid of the chronic plugged ducts. Thoughts?
