Hi wise ones,
I am working with a mum whose baby struggles to latch. He will latch when
he is less hungry and I am working on giving mum info and support. When he
is asleep he sometimes makes whooping noises. Is this possibly caused by
something physiological that could be giving him problems latching? I heard
him whoop when he was both lying almost flat and in his mums arms.
His tongue looks good. I haven't done a mouth exam because 2 health
professionals put their fingers in his mouth to check in hospital.
I am feeling somewhat deskilled recently as I see less mums breastfeeding
in my current work in a SureStart (like a W I C programme ) than when I was
in private practice.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Sarah McCann
