Hi. I am updating you on Norma Ritter's condition. Norma is one of the
volunteer listmother's for Lactnet. She is a devoted LC and LLLeader,
mother, wife, and grandma...and a lovely person all around. She has had a
very intense bad infection in her leg, which has nearly taken her life. Now
she is at a crossroads.

Norma has the infection in her leg, and the plan is to drain her leg as
well as they can of infection, etc. She currently is having IV antibiotics
three times/day, and is in St. Peter's Hospital in Schenectady NY. The
doctors have discussed her case... she has bad circulation, and they do not
feel they can cure this infection due to that.

Now Norma must choose now between having her leg amputated (for a
fulminating infection with three nasty bacteria) or to go to hospice. It's
been a long month for her, spent in another hospital and in a nursing home,
and now back in the hospital. She has to think on this and decide what she
will do. She is afraid of being a burden, and that is part of what is
weighing on her.

Norma's birthday is on Saturday,

If anyone wants to send Norma a card, email me and I will give you the
address. Thanks. Kathleen, listmother, from Vermont.
