There are a couple of other interventions used for engorgement. Therapeutic
breast massage has been shown to help reduce engorgement:
Witt AM et al. Therapeutic Breast Massage in Lactation for the Management
of Engorgement, Plugged Ducts, and Mastitis. J Hum Lact.
<https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/26644422#> 2016 Feb;32(1):123-31.
Bolman M. Recapturing the art of therapeutic breast massage during
breastfeeding. J Hum Lact. <https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23458951#> 2013
Aug;29(3):328-31.
Also, therapeutic taping has been suggested as a potential intervention,
although in the one study I could find on it, it did not help reduce
engorgement. It might be interesting to repeat such a study using Kinesio
tape to mobilize fluid and increase lymphatic flow as it does for sports
injuries.
Brown & Langdon. Does Kinesio elastic therapeutic taping decrease breast
engorgement in postpartum women? Clinical Lactation 2014: 5(2):67-74.
