Like Debra, I hardly ever saw TT in the first years I was the local LLLL.  Looking back I think the babies were just switched to a bottle if mom had significant pain or baby wasn't gaining.  As times changed and BFing became more important to families I began to see more.  Luckily as an APN I can dx and refer.  IBCLCs have to be very careful how they phrase what they see :-(  who sees the babies having trouble the most ?  I see babies early on who are destroying mom's nipples OR at several weeks when the baby is not gaining well or at all :-(  About 25 years ago I did home visits in an area where mom/baby went home 24-30 hrs after delivery.  If BFing was going well most babies were at birth weight or passing it by day 4 visit!  This back to birth weight by 2 weeks is a huge red flag in my opinion (not so humble, LOL) PS: the moms weren't getting so many labor interventions either. Love Noel -Weiss's article on true birthweights.

Another opinion - so much of what we eat is processed/prepared...do all the ingredients added cause problems???  I have  really enjoyed reading Michael Polan's book.  One of his rules is don't buy anything with more than 5 ingredients or if you can't pronounce the ingredients.  Pat in SNJ
