Hi Ilene,

I apologize if someone has already suggested this.... your story is very
interesting and at the same time sounds like a frustrating situation for
your daughter and granddaughter. Traumatic even.
Has she tried trying to switch her sleep schedule to see if this occurs
only "at night". Maybe tricking her to believe that night is day and day
is night? At 1 year of age it's hard to see that there is a correlation
between any kind of fearfulness that she might have of actual night time,
but then it could be refusing the routine of it. Just a mother to mother
helpful suggestion as I know none of this seems to make any sense.. I
personally have 5 children and my 4th would scream and cry every time he
was in his car seat, as if in pain. It was very difficult for our entire
family and we tried everything to "fix" it. We may never know what was
going on and why he reacted that way for about 2 years. Eventually he did
stop... he suffers from anxiety at nearly 10 years of age now. Not sure if
that's related.
While most children thrive in a routine environment maybe changing the
routine completely may act as a reset that could be helpful?? I hope
something found within this group aides your search and yields a positive
result. Best of luck.
