Hoping you all can offer some assistance. Mother of a 4 month old has been enjoying breastfeeding until a recent flare up of her ulcerative colitis. She noticed a drop in supply (most noticeable while pumping at work) after starting prednisone a few days ago. LactMed confirms temporary drop in supply on prednisone has happened. She tried a couple of the popular "mothers milk" teas available her in the US, but the predominate ingredient is fenugreek, which is not a good choice for her symptoms. She is also taking humira 40mg every other week, daily inruan 50. mg, daily Lialda 120mg. I told her I would research options for her to increase supply that would not exacerbate her symptoms. I'm looking for good starters, tips, etc. Her predisone tapering begins tomorrow. We already talked about doing as much skin to skin with baby as she can, and taking a "Babymoon" this weekend to concentrate on breastfeeding and cuddling. I also suggested her pump may not be performing as well as it did a couple of months ago since she has increased its usage. She is planning to follow up with her pump's customer service.
Thanks!!! Leslie
