Dear Lactnet Friends:
Molly describes a woman with persistent breast pain. The infant has been
overtreated for thrush....why think thrush for breastpain?
Did this client have symptoms of vasospasm?
Has she seen a chiropractor to look for any subluxations that would impinge
on intercostal nerves 3, 4 or 5?
Has her bra fit been checked? Are there any lumps in the area? Is her
nipple on that side misshapen when the baby lets go? Does hand expression
on that side hurt? Is she squeezing her breast there to shape it for the
feed?
Is the pain continuous? At the beginning of the feed? After the feed?
During the whole feed? Does changing the infant hold during feeding have
any impact on the pain?
Any history of breast surgery (biopsy or cyst removal)?? Was there breast
pain before breastfeeding?
Lots of questions here. . .what do the rest of you think?
warmly,
--
