I'm not yet an IBCLC, awaiting test results....
When I experienced persistent thrush my pediatrician suggested a baking soda solution to use on myself and baby after having tried nystatin for baby and diflucan for me. It worked for me.
Mix one level teaspoon of baking soda into 8oz of tap water. Store in a very clean jar that has a well fitting lid. Make a new mixture every day in a clean container.
MOM: after every feeding wipe each nipple and areola with a new cotton ball dipped into the baking soda solution. Rinse the baking soda solution with plain water just before the next feeding.
INFANT: after every feeding dip a clean cotton swab into the baking soda solution, shaking off any extra. Wipe the baby's mouth, cheeks, and tongue with the wet swab. Start with the back of the mouth and move towards the front. Do not re-dip the used cotton swab into the solution.
Continue for 5 days after the yeast overgrowth is gone.
Best of luck to your client!!
