Seeking insight with permission to post for a parent who was diagnosed this week with invasive ductal carcinoma that is ER (estrogen) +, PR (progesterone) +, and HER2+, breastfeeding a 17.5 month old...currently around 3 times per day with goal of continuing and nursing any future children as well. Patient questions are: does anyone have recent experience with treatments consistent with continuing breastfeeding for this type of cancer? Is breastfeeding possibly protective through treatment? Are there cancer treatments that would be better for preserving breastfeeding possibilities for the future? The medical team is said to be great but expressed they didn't have much experience with breastfeeding patients and I wanted to check in here for any up to date info. Thanks for any insight. Feel free to email me.
