High in salicylates and presumably some preservatives: I wouldn’t recommend it without evidence of safety and efficacy fr the allergic.
"High" in salicylates???:
The amount of salicylates is minimal in peppermint oil, probably much less than in most common foods that we eat and products that we use. The chemical composition of the essential oil from peppermint (Mentha x piperita L.) was analyzed by GC/FID and GC-MS. The main constituents were menthol (40.7%) and menthone (23.4%). Further components were (+/-)-menthyl acetate, 1,8-cineole, limonene, beta-pinene and beta-caryophyllene. Salicylate is not even mentioned as a notable component.
As for the preservative used: Gluconodeltalactone and Sodium Benzoate is a natural preservative that is a combination of a naturally occurring food additive glucono delta lactone from corn and a food grade preservative sodium benzoate, which is the sodium salt of benzoic acid, along with a trace amount of calcium gluconate as a processing agent. No allergies have been reported to this preservative by any user of over ten thousand users so far. Of course, any one person can be allergic to any ingredient of any product. It is certainly much, much more safe than the original preservatives, 0.1% propyl paraben and 0.1% methyl paraben (artificial preservatives) used in the Iranian studies showing the efficacy of peppermint gel for sore, raw, cracked, painful nipples during breastfeeding.
