" I was hoping you could help with some advice or point me in the right direction. I am 27 weeks pregnant today and my sister who just had a baby April 20th found out her baby has a condition called FPIES, which is a rare but serious allergy to all kinds of food proteins. This condition is not new in our family, her older daughter had it and was admitted to CHOP for 2 weeks when she was born but finally her GI tract healed and she was able to stabilize on RX formula called Neocate. Her new infant has been on that formula since birth in an attempt to prevent any FPIES complications, but we recently found out she is allergic to that too and the doctors only have one more formula they can try her on and hope she isn?t allergic to it. The baby is very sick and is on the verge of being admitted. We are fearful of what to do if she continues to reject this last resort option of formula. Other people have had success feeding babies breastmilk as long as the mother is on a very restricted diet, no wheat, chicken, eggs, beef, dairy, corn, soy, shellfish, nuts, etc. I wanted your advice if there is a way I can safely induce lactation this early in my pregnancy without jeopardizing the health of my baby. I would be willing to do this for my sister and niece and comply with the dietary restrictions, but I heard pumping can induce labor and my little one is still too small to be born. I also have not been leaking or showing any signs of milk production either. Any help? We are getting desperate to safely nourish this little baby. Do you know of any ladies who are familiar with his? My sister had a friend on this same diet for her baby with FPIES but that was a while ago and she is no longer producing so getting milk from her is not an option."
