Nikki asks what our story is about why we chose to breastfeed. When I had my first, breastfeeding was at a low rate. I was the only new mom in the ward of 6 that was breastfeeding. I had read some, but hadn't come into contact with LLL yet.So what motivated me? I am the younger of 2 girls by 10 years. When my sister had her first, she was attempting to breastfeed for less than a week. Although I never consciously felt competitive with her, when I had my first, I was determined that this was something I could do that she had not done before me! I wound up nursing all 3 of my kids, was a LLL Leader for 40+ years. among the first group certified as IBCLC and worked in the field for 30 years. Amazing what a little jealousy can lead to!Winnie Mading, retiredÂ
