Pat,
I'm on a community net (not quite free), and while I haven't had trouble
so far with mailbox space, I find that I have to be very diligent to keep
up with the mail! I tried digest, and found three drawbacks: 1) when
replying, you have to change the subject line; 2) if you want to reply to
the author only, you have to copy all that down to reply; 3) using PINE,
I can't save individual messages; the whole digest gets saved. I have a
Mac, and haven't succeeded in printing straight off of my net; I have to
"capture" in order to download, and rather than download a million
individual filesI save them up in an online file until I have enough, then
download
them together as one file. Keeps my hard disk uncluttered, as I only get
to the editing and printing every once in a while. Also, I miss seeing
the authors listed with the subjects when I open my mail! Digest is a
great idea, has its usefulness, also has its limits.
