Hello Lactnetters,
This is a new question, unrelated to the recent posts about adult keto diet.
Our hospital has recently acquired a centrifuge for our milk lab! The main goal is to be able to provide skimmed EBM feedings for infants with chylothorax. However, now that we have it, we are getting excited to use it for other situations.
We have a ketogenic diet program and occasionally work with infants who have refractory seizures and are started on the keto diet. The RD's from that program and I were wondering if there are any programs who use lacto-engineering to isolate the fat from EBM and incorporate that into feedings for infants on ketogenic therapy.
Another question is, does anyone have any information about the safety of thawing previously frozen EBM, spinning it down to separate the fat and re-freezing the fat (or for chylothorax- skim) layer?
If anyone has done this, or knows of any research, would you be willing to share your experience and ideas with us?
Feel free to email me privately if you prefer.
