Dear Steph,
I applaud you for standing up for what you know is right.
There are many things in the breastfeeding world that an experienced
practitioner just "knows", things we don't have research to support. How
many of us knew for years that mothers who had IV fluids during labor
and delivery had babies who lost a lot more weight than babies who had a
non-medicated birth? Robin Hirth and Joy Noel-Weiss provided evidence
for this for us with research but really weren't they confirming what we
already knew?
We don't have much research on galactagogues, this word is not even
recognized by spell check, but how many of us feel that a particular
food or herbs helped a particular mother make more breastmilk?
How many of us knew breastmilk was better for babies, mothers, and our
world without the science to prove it?
Science needs to catch up with us as well, not just the other way around.
Again Steph, good for you for standing up for what you know!
Warmly,
--
