I'm afraid I have no answer regarding the caul and the mocrobiome. However, here in Ireland, there has been a very old tradition of regarding those born in a caul as luck. As a child, I remember a contemporary of my (elderly) father being pointed out to me, saying "He was born in a caul" with some significance. In addition, some fishermen had the tradition of bringing a caul with them in the boat, for luck.

The reason I'm saying that is many of these superstitions arose out of something perhaps vaguely seen and guessed at - maybe those born in a caul had a better start in life, and this was perceived as luck, rather than exposure/non-exposure to maternal microbiome.
