To my knowledge there is nowhere in the States where a nurse can perform this procedure. But, there are two issues that come up for me. First, I share your frustration. Ten years ago, I had one doc to refer to locally. Since I developed a primarily on-line practice, I have participated in the rapid growth of providers the world over and find that most of my clients' waits are much shorter, as least in the US and Canada than ever before. Other areas are far more challenging. One challenge is that many of those who do scissor release are not doing them adequately; they have not come current on their information in most cases. 

Another issue though is that I have seen hundreds and hundreds of babies with oral restrictions and I am not sure when the last time was that I saw "only an anterior tie". While I do see them there is always a posterior tissue that also needs release, usually a lip tie and often buccal ties. A quick snip of the ATT for these babies would mislead parents into no longer looking at the ties as an issue, when so often they still are. Hi all!
I am an RN, IBCLC and live in the US. I am feeling
frustrated by the many simple anterior tongue ties which I see come through my
office, then watch them wait for an appt with an MD or PA specialist, while
mom's milk supply dwindles. I'd like to be trained in frenotomy and take care of
simple cases myself. I've been poring over the Internet tonight and find trained
RNs performing the procedure in the UK and Canada but no such cases in the US.
I'd love to hear from Registered Nurses in the US who clip tongue ties as apart
of their practice. How were you trained?  Are you apart of any professional
group?  This is uncharted territory at my workplace but my manager is
supportive. Thank you for any or all your input!
