Dear Friends,
I saw a mother yesterday who has had bone cancer at 8 and skin cancer at 
16. Both were surgically removed and she had some radiation with each 
episode. Would this affect breastfeeding in anyway? She is struggling 
with her rate of breastmilk production but I feel this is largely due to 
her poor breastmilk removal in the past. Her son is thin and she is now 
supplementing with formula and pumped breastmilk to help him gain 
weight. The mother also was unaware of what good breastmilk transfer 
looked like at the breast so she will be doing more compressing and 
massaging the breasts while feeding and switching sides more frequently.
As to him, he was born with his head being in the 90th percentile and it 
is now in the 99th percentile. His head is very heavy, it was 
interesting to pick him up. At 8 weeks he is still struggling with the 
weight of his head. He is going in today to have an ultrasound done. Any 
thoughts on head size and breastfeeding? His head has quite a bit of 
molding and I will be suggesting cranial sacral therapy for him 
depending on the results of the ultrasound.
