Dear Lactnet friends:
According to the Core Curriculum, there are 5 types of nipples: common,
flat, pseudo-inverted, retracted, and inverted.
The true inverted nipple will not evert no matter what is done to it (short
of surgery).
While there is a lot of research published about nipple shields, I know of
no study looking specifically at the truly inverted nipple and nipple
shield use.
One reason could be that the truly inverted nipple is rare.
Try it and see, and tell us about it, Tricia.
warmly,
--
