If they'll reimburse under the baby, can you code infant feeding problem? I'm not at work right now so don't have that code handy.

Subject: reimbursement for LC consult
There are certain insurance companies that routinely refuse
to reimburse
for mother during the first 6 weeks post partum, because
they consider the
lactation consult part of the global for pregnancy and
birth. I work as
consultant for a birthing center and chart and bill under
the electronic
system. Regardless of trying to explain to the
insurance company that my
services are as a consultant who comes in to see clients for
lactation which is
not part of the global expenses, they continue to refuse to
pay, or pay and
then a couple of years later ask for that money
back. They have no issue
for paying charges for baby. I've told the
office manager I would try to
find out how this can be handled. Anyone else
work for OB or Midwife office
who has encountered this and how do you handle
it? Thank you in advance and
would appreciate discussing this in more depth
privately.
