I am not connected to Nancy Mohrbacher so this not a commercial! She made up a 4 page handout on Lipase in milk from her book "Working and Breastfeeding Made Simple, called "When stored milk smells soapy or rancid." Google it :-)
1. All breast milk has lipase, some moms just have more.
2. Excess Lipase in milk slowly makes it smaell or taste bad.
3. Scalding can help. Lots of good advice on how to and when.
4. Tricks for using up stored milk that baby won't accept.
5. She suggested mom use bottled water, cut polyunsaturated fats in her diet, stop fish oil or flaxseed supplements, avoid any foods like anchovies [sardines??] and take extra antioxidants like beta Carotene.
Whole paper is very useful. Pat in SNJ
