Dear Lactnet Friends:

Tricia and Heather have described the situation accurately: for milk
production, you have to take it out to make it.  (Barring any unusual
physiologic concerns like insufficient glandular tissue or PCOS).

However, the belief that there is something one can drink or eat to
increase milk production just won't go away. I ask a class of nurses, "what
happens when you drink water? What fluid do you make?"   They all giggle,
and say, "Pee." And they don't connect the dots either.

Have dairy cow management concepts become so deeply a part of the modern
world that we can't shake these beliefs. It does matter how much and what
you feed cows for their milk supply.

NOT humans.
