After reading so many stories about pediatricians undermining bf, I thought I'd share this story from a recent client.
Baby is now 3 months.  Mother reported that when bf hurt and was hard in the beginning, her ped told her to just bf for one month.  A the one month appointment, the ped said to bf for two months.  At the two month appointment, the ped said to bf through the winter flu season.  The mother doesn't seem terribly thrilled by this, but she is willing to do it because the doctor said to do it.  I looked at the ped's website, and he does have a paragraph there about the "benefits" of bf.
