Dear Lactnet Friends:
Where is the evidence for this oft-repeated dictum: "I usually still
tell them wait at least 2 hours after each drink."
There is only one reported case in the literature of a baby being harmed by
breastfeeding with a mother who consumed: " Her intake was at least 50
12-ounce
cans of beer weekly, plus generous amounts of other more concentrated
alcoholic drinks.:
concentrated alcoholic drinks.Pseudo-Cushing syndrome caused by alcohol in
breast milk". Anna Binkiewicz, M.D., Michael J. Robinson, M.D., and
Boris Senior, M.D. The Journal of Pediatrics December 1978.
This baby had a pseudo-Cushing's syndrome that resolved when the mother
stopped drinking.
Yes to the risks of parenting safely when Mom is under the influence. Yes
to NO bedsharing when Mom is under the influence.
warmly,
