Dear Wise Ones,

I can't remember when I first joined and the rejoined after some inactive years. I just know that when I read Lactnet, it's like being at a conference - perhaps a case studies session - I am learning from the best. I am not on Facebook (work issue), but when I have looked over the shoulders of others, it reminds me of the conversations between sessions, a little meat-and-potatoes and a lot more catching up. Thank you for being here to learn from and for the patient list mothers who keep it all so organized and professional.

As to the blood from the nipple - an intraductal papilloma is certainly a possibility, Jacalyn, AND this mother's worries need to be acknowledged also, as it can be a sign of breast cancer. To rule out one and possibly confirm the other, I would suggest that the mother have a breast ultrasound as the best means of detecting either one and for her peace of mind.

Happy Fall to those in the northern hemisphere!!

Subject: Bloody breastmilk-One breast

Suggestions-- information.
Mom is exclusively pumping 6 month old. Pumping blood tinged milk from one breast. She noticed this about a month ago, a tinge of bloody milk went away after a few days. Over past week that nipple has been sore the first few minutes of pumping. Some redness, no cracks, no obvious bleeding. she leaked a little yesterday and noted bloody milk on breast pad. Today more blood in milk.
She of course is frantic--her business just had Breast Cancer information and speakers.
I checked Riordan & Wambach. (2010) Breastfeeding and Human Lactation. I found information regarding intraductal papilloma. Just curious of any other information from those of you experienced LactNetters

Thanks in advance
