/At our health facility we are fortunate to have access to the Medela
pump which now features different cycles. In the early days postpartum,
if there is a possible issue with supply, there is an initiate cycle
which takes 15 minutes and turns itself off. This cycle stimulates the
breasts and can produce a small amount of colostrum. We do encourage the
use of hand expression before/after this session.
/
/Following this, when there is more volume produced and Mum is looking
to supplement with ebm, or baby is in SCN, there is the usual
maintenance cycle to keep up this required volume.
/
/I have been pleasantly surprised by the ease of use and acceptance [if
they need to have this extra help] by Mums. Using a 'boob tube' to
double pump is an advantage, as Mums can massage the breasts whilst
pumping, further assisting in volumes./
/Cheers/
