I have seen this speculated - after all, folic acid is thought to 
work by preventing midline anomaly, of which spina bifida and other 
conditions are examples.  It is certainly worth considering that *too 
much* of a good thing might have an undesirable effect. Tongue tie is 
a midline anomaly; whereas spina bifida is a result of 'fusion 
failure', TT is a result of the opposite (sort of.....).

I don't know of any discussion among specialists such as anatomists 
or fetal physiologists, though.

It would be good to explore this.....the increase in tongue tie 
diagnosis is probably multi-factorial (and may include 
over-diagnosis) but this could be part of the explanation.
