I have a few ideas for this mom:

- She could use a gentler pump. The most gentle pump I have worked with is the Medela Symphony.

- She could pump one side at a time to minimize the time each nipple is yanked on.

- She definitely should use hand compressions while pumping to minimize time spent.

- She could also consider weaning fromthe right side of all else fails.



Also, if her mastitis is happening over and over in the same spot,  she should be evaluated for an abscess. If it has never cleared,  inflammatory breast cancer should be considered.
