PTP. Mother has been breastfeeding for almost 7 months now. For the last 6 weeks, she has been dealing with painful right nipple. She has had burning pain. She was treated with Nystatin for 2 weeks and miconazole for 2 weeks without resuult. She is currenlty taking oral diflucan 400mg as well as keflex for possible staph. She now describes her nipple and areola as looking like it was burned from 9-3 o'clock with pain that she desrbies a blow torch. She recenlty started the Keflex but has not noted any improvement.
I know the saying: she hasn't responded to thrush treatment, it probably isn't thrush. I referred her to our local breast surgeaon with recommendation for culture.
Any other thoughts?
TIA
