While in Puerto Rico I met 2 moms who eventually died who had developed breast cancer during pregnancy and/or breastfeeding. This has made me a "fanatic" when it comes to possible lumps, bumps, Peau d'orange appearance in the skin, etc.
A Mammogram is not the only - in fact a POOR way of identifying cancer, especially in young, healthy women as most breastfeeding moms are! It is just a "screening tool."
I understand, according to my doctor who found 3 lumps in me (a very old woman whose breasts are not dense). The only way to be "sure" is through the use of breast biopsy assisted by U/S. (mine were negative).
