Not sure if this has been discussed & crossposting to LACTNET facebook. Interesting study (open access) concluding that probiotic use during pregnancy and lactation is associated with a 22% lower risk of young children developing eczema. It doesn't prove how probiotics might prevent eczema, but the study author, R. Boyle says its possible taking these supplements changes the composition of breastmilk & influences the way a child's immune system and skin develops. He goes on to say, probiotics added directly to an infant's diet directly doesn't seem to protect infants for developing eczema. http://journals.plos.org/plosmedicine/article?id=10.1371/journal.pmed.1002507
