I'm trying to update our hospital's human milk storage guidelines. I have the 2011 guidelines from HMBANA. They have a nice handout in the appendix for staff:Storage of Human milk for NICU & High Risk Infants andStorage of Human milk for Term Infants Can't find their definition for who should be considered NICU infants - any babies under 37 weeks? Does anyone know? I'm particulary interested in guidelines regarding what to do if the baby in the nursery doesn't finish the whole feed. HMBANA seems to state that it should always be thrown out right away for babies in the NICU but term babies it can be refrigerated and used within 4 hours. I'm just wondering what they consider to be a NICU baby. We have a Level 2 Special Care Nursery for babies over 32 weeks. Thanks for any help, Tricia Shamblin, RN, IBCLC
