The city of New York has subpoenaed Abbott Laboratories regarding its
infant formula marketing claims. In a probe that asks for more than 20
types of documents relating to Abbott's infant formula marketing claims and
tactics is included a request for documentation of evidence to substantiate
the numerous claims made regarding the formula, documents sufficient to
identify Similac FeedingExpert.comand Live Help staff and, as to each: a.
Job title; b. Job responsibilities; and c. Qualifications and training,
etc. I have copies of the court documents should anyone wish to see and act
on them.
To take advantage of this golden opportunity to curb infant formula
marketing we might wish to contact our state department of consumer affairs
and register a complaint regarding the marketing claims and tactics used by
all formula manufacturers. We can ask for a similar type of probe that is
taking place in the city of New York. Given that August contains World
Breastfeeding Week and Month, this is a most opportune time to address one
of the major challenges to breastfeeding.
