Hi All, I am due to recertify by exam in 2017 and I have resigned myself to that fact. I certified the first time in 1987. I worked as hard for those initials as I did my RN. The Miriam Webster online dictionary defines emeritus "one retired from professional life but permitted to retain as an honorary title the rank of the last office held". With that definition in mind, emeritus really wouldn't pertain to those of us who are reaching retirement but still practicing because of a need to or desire to continue to work. 30 years seems to be a common denominator for those of use who became IBCLC's in the infancy and that could be the benchmark at which time the exam requirement is suspended while still requiring CERP's as they currently are. And, doesn't experience count after 30 years?
