I wonder how mother's supply is? Does she pump?

I have seen many babies with whom mother produces tons of milk and baby doesn't 'learn' how to nurse because they don't need to. Baby opens mouth and mothers oxytocin responce is so strong all baby has to do next is try to swallow fast enough. I have also seen one baby who litteraly just cupped her tongue around the tip of the nipple (like she was providing a funnel for the milk) and swallowed because mother's milk was so fast.

THEN once the supply slowed down, by either age or conviencing mother that she didn't need to pump x ounces out after every feeding session, baby didn't know how to nurse.

I have worked with OT before with these babies and we have had good luck with teaching them how to suckle using a pacifer. To create cupping with tongue and negative pressure to hold pacifier in. They then were able to transfer the skills very well at the breast.
