I developed a check list and scavenger hunt for our staff based on the
skills and competencies under the exclusive breastfeeding guidelines for
JACHO. The scavenger hunt has been the most helpful for staff. I have
10 items on the scavenger hunt: Name the 10 steps to baby friendly in
your own words, look up a medication on Lactmed or Dr. Hale's book, look
up something (I give suggestion) such as infant of a diabetic mother on
the Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine. Find an app on the phone for
breastfeeding. Find breast shells (any BF item) and explain how to
instruct a mother on use and cleaning. I tried to make the scavenger
hunt something they have to use their technology. I have inbedded
links, breastfeeding care plan they have to do etc. Even the staff that
have been here for 20 yrs. learned something.
