I recently was doing some fetal monitoring at work for a woman expecting mono/mono twins. Naturally I spoke with her about hand expression and what to expect in the early days with her twins in NICU. They will be delivered around 32 weeks. Turns out she had been expressing colostrum much earlier in her pregnancy, around 15 weeks and she has saved it. She asked me if she can use it for her babies. I told her that likely she could though fresh colostrum should be given first.
So my question is, does colostrum expressed in the second trimester, before viability have similar composition to colostrum expressed after delivery of a preterm baby?
