Saw a 12 mo old for a routine physical today.
The kid is still breastfeeding, and mom is not planning to wean, but mom
does not have any opportunity to pump at work.
And it is not just because there is no legal protection for mothers of
toddlers, but also because there are only two chairs in the pumping
lounge for about 20 breastfeeding mothers.
Mother was told that the company leadership had never seen such an
interest in breastfeeding (which is wonderful), but at the same time the
leadership is not that eager to change the things (which is not so good)...
I think that we do have a great opportunity for a wonderful change here.
We did agree that while this particular mom will work on creating a list
of her co-workers who were breastfeeding (including those who had to
wean prematurely because of this situation), are breastfeeding. and/or
are pregnant and planning to breastfeed, I will start asking questions
and we will be able to change something in this NJ company and then - in
other small and big companies as well.
Any ideas, suggestions, and leads will be more then welcome.
If someone had lead or participated in such project - we would like to
know what worked and what did not.
If any of you want to join the cause - we will gladly use any help we
can get.
Thank you,
Alla
