I had to do this to justify one FTE LC position and then the need for a second part time LC for our 80 bed Level III NICU. Both presentations were successful. I used the resources already mentioned, but also provided administration with copies of the recommended FTE per hospital delivery size. USLCA has a very nice booklet with all of this information provided. I also made a power point presentation which included this information along with a comparison of other NICU's in the area to ours as well as 2 Level III's out of state which had the appropriate LC support, the benefits of LC support in NICU, positve outcomes, increased milk production, decreased NEC, increased breastfeeding rates, shorter stay, etc. I am available to anwer more questions as you have them.
