I am a hospital LC and we are in D3 of the 4D process of becoming a Baby Friendly designated hospital. It is budget time and we are beginning to look at the financial implications of buying formula. I am afraid we will get some push back from the buyers when we start trying to negotiate formula and nipple prices. "Why pay for something when you can get it for free?" We are ready with all the arguments including "what else do we get for free? NOTHING". I was wondering if any Baby Friendly Hospitals could share any financial impacts you have seen since your designation. I think this would go a long way with the penny pinchers. We have administration's support but adding this expense in an already volatile time in healthcare, I would like to have something I could share with them that other hospitals have seen.
We are the only hospital within 45 miles so we don't loose too many deliveries to other facilities. I don't think getting the designation will bring too many patients from other hospitals.
Thank you in advance.
