Nicki,
Dee Kassing has an approach to treating recurring blebs and feels that only
part of the bleb is removed and the higher up blockage is eventually
pulled down to the nipple by baby's sucking for a few days, so seems to return
but part of the original blockage. Perhaps she'll chime in here with her
treatment. Also lecithin in form of sunflower seed lecithin instead of soy,
may be helpful in the long run. I might also suggest she try vibration
above the areola in direction of duct (s) leading to blocked nipple pore,
castor oil packs applied to area (not on nipple itself) 2-3 times per day.
This mom may not feel a blocked duct but it likely is there, just deeper in
her breast. Epsom salt soaks in a bowl and leaning over and rinsing her
breast and having baby nurse right after may also help.
Original cause may be older baby's suck changing, shallow latch, pulling
back on the nipple, chomping/biting due to teething, or mom's diet of too
many trans fats, possible yeast. Am currently dealing with mom of 5 mos old
and similar scenario; also sent her to nutritionist for muscle testing for
sensitivities in baby and mom.
Barbara Latterner, BSN, RN, IBCLC
The mother of an exclusively breastfeeding 5 month old has suddenly started
having a bleb on the face of her most producing breast.
She thought at first it was a tight bra, so she stopped wearing them and
now wears tank tops. Still the bleb comes back.
She has tried olive oil to the area. As she is a periodontist, she uses a
dental needle to clear the bleb herself. OUCH, but it works.
Any ideas?
